The history of
composites dates back to 3000 BC when the people of ancient Egypt used straw
along with the mud to make bricks to increase the strength of the brick.
Impressive as it was, it indeed had the properties that were intended present
in those bricks, they were extra strong and didn’t break down easily. Following
this principle, many composites have been made ever since, out of which, the
ones with wood (ply-balsa-ply sandwich composite) and metal composites are
notable. But none of these are perfectly fit for the new age applications, like
in the racing cars, aerospace etc. For these purposes, stronger, lighter and
weather-proof material was needed, which has come up in the form of carbon
composites. Soon after its invention and initial testing, it started being
produced at industrial levels in most of the countries of the world. In India,
one of the chief manufacturers and suppliers of carbon composites is Moldex Composites, which has recently
been acquired by Rockman Industries by procuring its major shares.
Rockman is the venture
of the Hero Group that started with the manufacturing the bicycle chains in
1960. Soon after, it started manufacturing the other parts of the bicycle and
with the advent of motor cycles, it started manufacturing and supplying two
wheeler automotive parts in which it gained huge success. Moving on to producing
four wheeler automotive parts, Rockman now aims to take over the aerospace
industry by making high quality Carbon
composites. These carbon
composites can be used in multiple industries like Motorsports, Automotive,
Aerospace, Defence, Wind Energy, Medical Industry, Sporting goods. Different
varieties of composites are produced to be used at different places in these
industries. Rockman takes care of all the steps in this rigorous process, viz.,
detailed designing, analysis, material choice, laminate designing, selection of
patterns, moulds, and jigs and then manufactures the bespoke composites for its
clients’ satisfaction.
Aerospace
composites are different from other composites as they need very high strength,
light weight and they should be able to withstand high temperature, pressure,
radiation and should be tough enough to maintain their structure and not to
crumble or change their shape when subject to extreme conditions. Moldex makes
carbon – epoxy composites that are half the weight of the metals of comparable
strengths, and since the molecular structure of graphite is linear, leading to
its extra strength and definite shape. Also, carbon composites are relatively
easier to mould in complex shapes and work with making component integration
possible, which saves time and cost in its fabrication.
Moldex
Composites has been able to develop high quality composites from concept to
finished component, which serves as its greatest strength when it comes to
creating customised composites for different uses, which makes it one of the
most successful Composites companies in
India. And now being backed up by the strength and stability of the
prestigious Hero Group, Moldex is expected to rise even higher in the market.
Rockman is a renowned and respected name in the industry for producing
automotive parts and making Moldex Composites its integral part unites the
market reputation of Rockman with the abilities of Moldex, making Rockman the
uninhibited force in the aerospace composites industry.
